Araun is a special ward in the Rabekareta Federal Metropolis in Onchera. It is one of the eleven central wards of the Rabkareta Federal Metropolis. Located in the southern area of Rabkareta, Araun is bordered by the wards of Aranbu, Maxeta, and Bizeta in the north and Zabala, Etxeterroa, and Baña in the south.
The ward was founded on 30 Rotting Wood 3152 with the establishment of the Rabkareta Federal Metropolis. The total land area of Araun is 11.01 km^2, sitting on the largest plateau with a difference of 50 m between the ward's highest and lowest points. Approximately 47% of Araun's land is residential, and 20% is commercial and public areas.
The ward is named after, and is the site of the old town of Araun, that formed the city of Rabkareta under the rule of Izaro the Great after the turn of the third millennium.
History
Araun was founded as a ward in 3152 by the designation of the City of Rabkareta as a "federal metropolis". The borders were drawn slightly larger than the bounds of the old town of Araun, encompassing the Sugaar river's inlet, notably.
The area itself was the ancestral home of the Araun clan and their ancestors, being founded in the 26th century. During the conquests of Gaizka Araun, Araun expanded in size. In 2998, the forces of the Araun clan captured the town of Masseta from Nesrab Issaka, and the Araun clan moved to Masseta. Over the decade, the small distance between Araun and Masseta caused the towns to fuse, as both towns expanded towards each other. In 3008, Izaro the Great would declare the City of Rabkareta as the administrative capital of Onchera, with the new city encompassing the area.
Areas of the old town of Araun still exist within the ward, and are mostly preserved. Efforts began on restoring Fort Araun as of the establishment of the ward, but were halted over concerns of the reversibility of the work.
